Notes:
11 year old daughter of William H. and Sarah C. Davis. Hattie H. Davis eleven year old daughter of William H. Davis, who resided on the Northrup Road Lot 101 and friend Nellie E. Wallis daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wm D. Wallis , both drowned on the afternoon of July 24, 1867 in "Devil's Hole" in the Cazenovia Creek. The hole was formed in the bed of the creek by the rapid flow of the water at the bed of creek and at that time was about forty feet in length, up and down the creek, and about twenty feet wide and about seven feet deep. It is supposed that the girls wading in the shallow water along the shore without knowing of the hole stepped and fell into it and both were drowned. - Source Elma History, Erie, NY
